  Universal CCTV Applications
Serve as an important tool for security--watching premises, generating alerts, and detecting intruders.
Act as a strong deterrent against violent crime, theft, and robbery.  Most criminals are very aware that their chances of getting caught dramatically increase when their crimes are recorded to video.  Most will choose an alternate target when they see security cameras.
Provide valuable evidence to police and prosecutors.
Guard fence perimeters, entrances/exits, and interior hallways.  Time and date stamps on recorded video can be used to know exactly when people and deliveries arrive and depart.
Provide verification of other alarm notifications such as those for fire and burglary.  Due to the large number of false alarms, many police departments no longer respond automated burglar alarms.
Monitor areas that are remote or hard to get to.  Examples would be on rooftops, attics, crawl spaces, or places that are locked or not easily accessible.  Note that there are many reasonably priced cameras available that operate in low light or in complete darkness. Surprisingly, these cameras have very low power consumption rates (well under 1 watt).
Catch people who dump on your property. Cameras will also go a long way to stop the unauthorized usage of your dumpster, trash, or recycle bins.
Thwart vandalism.  In addition to using motion activated video, WattWire is now experimenting with a new type of alarm sensor that can detect the unique sound signature of a spray paint can--even within crowd noise!
Watch parking lots and vehicles. Widely available cameras equipted with night vision capabilities have now made CCTV an even better tool for watching this potential crime area around the clock.
Save money on insurance.  Many home owners and business insurance policies offer discounts for property protected by surveillance video.
Use the video server / DVR to monitor for other harmful conditions using specialized alarm sensors.  For example, extreme temperatures or flooding caused by broken plumbing.
